Success as a Community

Since 1970, Agape Child & Family Services has focused on being a channel of service for the Mid-South. That focus continues today as we partner with local congregations, non-profits, corporations, and other resources to offer an authentic model of sharing with children and families in need. We share love, life, homes, family, and community. The biblical model of sharing implies a back-and-forth process, not a one-way gift or relationship. Therefore, we attempt to put flesh on this model by serving the homeless, the fatherless, and underserved neighborhoods in a godly manner.

In 2016, Agape surveyed nearly 430 residents (youth and adults) to assess their feedback on a high need for employment-related support in their communities. The following is a breakdown of the employment statuses from the survey:
  • 48% employed
  • 44% unemployed
  • 2% disabled
  • 4% retired
  • 2% unknown

Memphis’ unemployment rate is now at 8%
– almost double the national rate.

Through Teamworks, Agape works collaboratively with strategic community partners to meet the ever-increasing demands for a work-ready labor force. In order to meet this need, Agape and key stakeholders such as the Workforce Investment Network (WIN) work collaboratively on innovative workforce development strategies to meet the needs of residents and stakeholders living in communities served by the Powerlines Community Network.

Teamworks Focus Areas:

  • employment

  • job advancement
